in morocco, art and visual beauty are lived

Our guides, a walking wikipedia for all things Moroccan, Addi Ouadderrou, owner of Moroccan Caravan Tours and Sandy Clinton, a DC-based landscape architect, introduced us to this world, casting its magical spell over those who shared in our journey.

Through his eyes and heart, Addi’s passion for and knowledge of the culture of his homeland demonstrates that this description is real. Sharing his deep Amazigh roots and his broad understanding of the Moroccan cultural heritage, we were fully engaged tourists seeing Morocco through eyes beyond our own. Whether it was making tea, tagines or bread; dancing to live music and drumming; watching embroidery and rug-making with an opportunity to try out our own finger-weaving skills, navigating the colorful freneticism of the souks, walking through mysterious casbahs or basking in the silence of the magnificent, mesmerizing landscapes atop a camel, we were present and “all in.”

This was not simply an introduction to another culture but an immersion in which we felt completely comfortable and at the same time spellbound by its beauty of life. Thanks to this journey, I have Morocco in my dreams when I need a magic carpet to an exotic world where art blooms and hospitality reigns. ~ AJAROO

A Deep Cultural Dive, and More!

Go beyond sightseeing. The highlights are too numerous to list them here, as every day brought a flood of them. Addi's balance of his tremendous knowledge of his country, his exceptionally thorough planning and his ability to let serendipity unfold allowed us to experience so much that no one on a “sightseeing” trip ever would encounter.
All lodgings were beautiful and comfortable, food was consistently excellent, and on-the-ground guides were first class. Our small passenger bus was very comfortable. From the large souks to quiet mountains, the Sahara to the sea, we did it all, and with great personal attention. We came home ready to head back as soon as possible. - Nina

morocco with a personal touch

Addi and Sandy facilitated and led a great trip, Gardens, Culture, Cuisine, that gave us both an overview (saw 15 of 18 top sights in Morocco from my guidebook) and a personal view (off the beaten path to small villages and family homes) of the wonder that is Morocco. Addi and Sandy have great expertise that they shared with our group. We felt more like travelers amongst friends than tourists!
I would and will go on another trip with Moroccan Caravan! We spent two amazing weeks in Morocco with our guide, Addi of Moroccan Caravan. ~ CFink

Not a typical "package" tour

This was the most in-depth, personal, behind-the-scenes, and reasonably priced tour of this fascinating country I could have hoped for. A small group tour (seven adults, mostly friends, for 20 days) with guide Addi Ouadderrou, who handled all arrangements, lodging, meals, admissions, side trips, tips, and occasional surprises seamlessly for a worry-free experience. He is also profoundly knowledgeable about all things Morocco- culture, history, politics, Islam, Amazicht (Berber) culture, crafts, agriculture, music, food and more. Some hi-lites: navigating the mind-boggling medinas of Fes and Marakech, meeting craftspeople, staying at peaceful, beautiful Riad guest houses. Staying at Addi's family home in the SE desert region where we pollinated date palms, cooked with tagines, and walked through the ancient casbah where he lived as a boy. An amazing, hair-raising ride thru the Atlas Mts. (expertly driven by the ever-calm Said). Delightful seaside town of Essouerra, the fanciful blue city of Chefchouen... I just wish we could have spent a few more days in a some of these towns, but there is so much to see. All our hosts were lovely. Expect to eat and shop a lot! An unforgettable experience. - Lew

Magical Caravan

Our two week adventure with a large group of friends was a deep dive into the treasures of Morocco - warmth of people, richness of history, layers of culture, variety of music, tastes of food, liveliness of markets, arts and crafts of all kinds, textures and patterns, and warmth of the desert sands. Addi Ouadderrou’s guidance and leadership throughout our journey was extraordinary. His depth of knowledge, keen wit, interest in humanity, love of his homeland, positive spirit, storytelling prowess, concern for his guests, warmth of hospitality, and genuine love of his role as a guide, organizer, and teacher, made for a deep, rich, and intimate experience.  Personally, I travel for inspiration from art and landscape, to gain knowledge, and mostly to experience how all of humanity is woven together, no matter how near or far. Addi and Moroccan Caravan Tours delivered on this beyond my wildest dreams! Morocco will be a place I return to many times, with Addi as my guide. - DC Resident

Traveling in Time

With Addi as your trustworthy guide you will experience Morocco as few others! He doesn't just recite the usual tour- guide factoids. Instead he helps you understand the history and cultural significance of the traditions and art. You will gain a new appreciation for the skill of the artists as you witness firsthand the various treasures being crafted. We were invited into the workrooms and shops of blacksmiths, weavers, bakers and tile makers, all working as they did ages ago. Our trip was not just a fun vacation- it was travelling in time! And while the tour conveyed the content and knowledge of a graduate course, it was also just plain fun. Every day brought a new adventure, a great meal or two, and plenty of laughs. Addi's enthusiasm is infectious and he seems to be friends with everyone he meets. If you decide to join the 'Moroccan Caravan" I'm confident that generous spirit of friendship and hospitality will be extended to you as well! Don't put it off- just GO!!! - Herbert M

Hands on Arts tour

A great lady had a vision to share a place & people she loves with art teachers like herself. I was fortunate to participate in her initial group with Addi as our guide. This was so much more than I can ever express! Not only was Addi Ouaderrou of Moroccan Caravan, LLC highly knowledgeable about all things Morocco, he was a fountain of knowledge in all of the arts, sciences, social studies, cultural impacts, belief systems, languages, and culinary arts! He brought in local experts, artist, and experiences specific to arts education. The experience with this creative group, Addi, and family will positively impact my classroom, students, District, State and Art Teachers nation wide. I have embraced the vision and will continue on to guide others to Addi and his miraculous designed tours for cultural and educational purposes! - Sherry H

Extraordinary vacation tour of Morocco

The tour took us to many varied regions of Morocco including ancient cities, the Atlas mountains, the Atlantic shore, and the unforgettable Sahara Desert! Addi's avid interest in sharing his intimate knowledge of the country, its culture and its people gave us extraordinary access to experiences not usually associated with group tours, such as cultural activities in homes and small communities. Addi's attention to details and needs for each member of the tour, as well as his gregarious nature, helped us to be comfortable and relaxed in immersing ourselves in Morocco. This is a very good value for a two -week tour. - Gita P.

Family Vacation Magical!!!

Thank you Addi and the Moroccan Caravan LLC group. This was an amazing experience, that I cannot wait to come back and share with my son. On this trip it was 10 of us family members and two new family friends.
I did not expect to be so speechless and to have my breath taken away, again and again. Morocco has so much beauty. There is beauty in its land, food, architecture and people. Addi and his family welcomed us with open arms and made us feel right at home. I know I feel like a local. How could I not when I felt loved? Oh and the food... God Lord... I was always hungry and could not seem to get enough of EVERYTHING!! Please eat EVERYTHING LOL!!
My favorite part about the trip is the education. We where well educated in the history and current cultural and political shifts of Morocco. The most peaceful part of my trip was, sitting on the Sahara Sand Dunes. There is this feeling of calm, peace and humanity that waged over me and I did not want to leave. I can’t wait to share this feeling with my son.
Addi... thank you and God Bless. - N. S.

Best Travel Experience of 50 Years Exploring Worldwide

Enough people have already described the phenomenal highlights of Moroccan Caravan tours with respect to places, tastes, smells, camel excursions etc. What sets off this 2-week adventure is Addi Ouadderrou’s extraordinary talent in sharing old world customs, culture, and practices with 21st century visits to places still practicing age old norms. He demonstrated how Moroccans have a foot in both the old and the new world and how they simultaneously succeed in both. Intimate descriptions of husbandry, arts, crafts, architecture, etc. always included the opportunity to observe ‘up close and personal’! Hands down - - this is the best excursion I’ve experienced in over 50 years of worldwide travel. - Sue R

A Moroccan Dream Come True

From my first contact with Addi, I knew we had found the right person for our trip. Recommended by my brother, he quickly responded with an itinerary that hit all of our desired stops and added a few to round it out. From our pickup at the ferry in Tangier to our delivery to the airport in Casablanca a week later, we couldn't have asked for more. The food was tremendous, carefully selected by our guide. Highlights for me included our visits to Chefchauen (the quite magical Blue City), Fes (seeing artisans working in the medina) and our overnight camel trip to the desert with fabulous accommodations. Not only was our guide informative on the history, architecture, flora and fauna, he was a delightful individual who shared his experiences growing up in Morocco. We were charmed by the Moroccan people and felt safe and cared for at all times. I would highly recommend Moroccan Caravan, LLC. - M.N
